The latest credit repair and identity theft scam to hit the Internet is companies selling ?dormant? or unused Social Security numbers as a way to establish a new credit file.
And they?re not calling them Social Security Numbers but rather ?CPN?s? for credit profile, credit protection or credit privacy numbers.
Since most babies are now given SSN?s at the hospital when they are born, there are now millions of kids that have a dormant Social Security Number.
The buyer of the SSN or CPN applied for credit with the number and a new address and contact information and the innocent owner of the SSN has a full history of most likely bad credit before they are even old enough to legally enter into a contract.
Beware.
