Creditors often see charge-offs as an indication that a consumer has been delinquent about their credit in the past and that they are a high risk for credit in the future. According to Bankrate.com the number one reason for getting turned down on a loan is because of charge-offs.
However, even in the best of times there are people who face financial challenges and in the current economic climate there are folks who are facing difficulties that they have never experienced before. Anyone who has had problems needs to know what exactly they can do about charge-offs and other negative listings on their credit reports.
Typically when a payment has not been made on an account for 180 days the debt will be charged off. However, this does not relieve the consumer of the responsibility to pay the debt and collection attempts may continue.
No one is immune to credit problems showing on their credit report. Using creditor negotiations and credit bureau disputes you may be able to improve the status of the bad credit or maybe even get it removed completely. You will most likely have to communicate directly with your creditors and you can do it yourself or you can hire a professional credit repair service to assist you.
In many cases it is possible to get negative credit removed before the typical 7-year waiting period. You just need to take the action and get the results.
