Do you find that you tend to spend more during the summer versus other times of the year?
Summer is when many of us can finally enjoy the outdoors. We might take a nice summer vacation or two. Perhaps play golf every weekend, or maybe do lots of gardening. Of course, all of these activities cost money, in some cases a lot of money.
So what can you do to save some money over the summer months, but still have a good time doing the things you love to do?
Always try to book your vacations as early as possible. When you book early you will find better deals on airfare and hotel prices. If a cruise is something you enjoy doing, you will usually find that when you book early you will qualify for additional credits that you can use for onboard shopping or activities.
Perhaps you have accumulated frequent flyer miles or credit card travel rewards. Book your vacation based on how many miles you have. For example you might have enough to fly anywhere within your own country but not overseas. So find a nice place that is closer to home, and save money by using your points.
As well, when you get to your destination look for free things to do instead of paying for every activity you participate in.
First and foremost, decide what you can afford to spend so that you do not have to finance your landscaping bills.
If you have a number of large projects to do, create a plan and spread the projects out over a number of years instead of trying to do everything at once. For example, build your fence one year, and have new sod laid the following summer.
Wait for sales on the products that you need at your local hardware stores and garden centers.
If you need to lay sod, contact the company you plan to buy it from in the winter and you will most likely get a huge discount because their business will be so slow then.
Summer Activities & Sports
Some sports are very expensive to participate in, and some not so much.
If there is a sport that you really enjoy, but find it is expensive, try putting money aside throughout the entire year so that come summer you can comfortably use that money for whatever it is that you enjoy doing.
If money is really an issue, consider alternatives. You could go biking, play Frisbee, or play volleyball. You could consider joining a baseball league. On the weekends, instead of taking your family to an expensive amusement park, take them to a local park and take a long a picnic. Depending on where you live, you could also go hiking.
There are lots of ways to enjoy your summer without spending a lot of money. You just need to be creative and do some careful planning.
