Today is the deadline for filing your taxes for the year 2009. April 15, as usual. However, if you happen to live in one of the following counties, you have an unusual and atypical extension this year and you will have until May 11.
· Massachusetts: Bristol, Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk, and Worcester Counties
· Rhode Island: Kent, Newport, Providence, and Washington Counties
· West Virginia: Fayette, Greenbrier, Kanawha, Mercer, and Raleigh Counties
The IRS extended the filing deadline for these counties and states because they were declared Federal disaster areas during the severe storms and flooding in March 2010.
Massachusetts has also extended the filing deadline for state income tax to May 11 for their residents that live in those counties. Rhode Island extended the deadline for their state income tax to May 11 for all residents.
But for the rest of us, today is the day. Time is up.
