If you have a negative on your credit report it can affect what you want to receive on a loan or even get a job. You want to have credit at the interest you want and not let a bad report affect that as well. You can remove late payments from credit reports in order to raise your score and get better interest rates.
The entire process to do so will be time consuming so you will need to be aware of this before you begin so be patient while you are waiting. Don’t believe any promises from emails or advertisements that someone can fix your credit quick. Most of these promises are scams and will just rip you off. You will need patience as you correct negative reports.
To begin you will need a copy of your credit report from each of the three credit reporting agencies. You can get it for free once a year by requesting it from their website. Once you get it scan it and check what the negative reports on there are. If there is more than one you will have to mark which ones they are and dispute all of them individually.
Gather all the documentation that you will need for disputing your negative report. Such items will be your statements and a bank record of payment processed. Make copies of the proof you will need to send to the agency with your dispute letter and never give them your original copy as you will need it for your records.
The credit reporting agencies now have on online dispute process you can do which makes it easier for you. But you can also mail in a dispute form. The process is on their website how to go about the disputing process. You will need to send it certified mail and with a signature request for your documentation and proof that they received your letter.
The reason you want to do this is because you can prove the date you sent and they received the letter. Then you can prove when it was sent as the company has a thirty day window to respond with their decision. If they miss the window then by law they have to remove the negative report. You can decide on this as if it was truly late they still have to remove the item.
When the company responds to your dispute within the window and they decide not to remove the reporting then you have the option of filing a formal dispute. The same process is followed including the thirty day window once more. So you will need to be organized and hold onto all of the dates you mailed the letters and when they were received so you can prove dates and conversations.
Errors can happen on a credit report and a company can give you a negative ding when they said they would not. So you should be able to remove it with proof. Have a folder for each company you make any disputes with and keep your records. Your credit rating is important and you want to protect it by disputing any mistakes on it.
