As we have reported here before, the only place that you can get a credit report for “free” as in completely free, no charge, no money changing hands, and more importantly, nobody trying to convince you to part with your money for some type of expensive credit monitoring service is at annualcreditreport.com.
That’s it. That is the only place.
And even though that other website is named
“freecreditreport.com”, the credit report
you get is not really free. Nope, they are trying to sell you on credit monitoring services.
But even so, you have to admit that they did have some pretty catchy tunes on some pretty creative, fun and entertaining commercials. Jingle, jangle.
But starting Friday on April 2, the new FTC regulations will prohibit the many companies that are offering “free credit reports” when they are really not “free” at all.
But they are getting around the new laws.
Now they are offering a “free credit score”.
And the truth is that you can’t get a really “free” credit score anywhere. When you get your credit report from annualcreditreport.com you don’t get the credit scores, you only get the credit report.
However, don’t be fooled. Your “free credit score” is not really free. You will still be asked to purchase a credit monitoring service and your “free” score will end up costing you much more than if you just get it and pay for it through the regular channels.
